    Hey guys

im new to this forum. i have gone on others here and there but its nice to see a canadian one.

i had 2 Dendrobates azureus but one passed away the other day after having them for almost 3 years. not sure of the cause but since it did i decided to quarantine the other and redo the tank. i have a unit/stand that my dad made for my pets. it has ball pythons on the bottom, crested gheckos on the top right and the frogs were on the top left. thats an older pic when i was experimenting with a waterfall but ive given up on that idea i think.

once my setup is done i will get a few more maybe and then i really love the colors of the Dendrobates auratus-Super Blue :x . beautiful little frogs. i guess ill have to decide where to put them.

so what would you guys recommend. i was thinking since the tank is high, to make a second floor type of thing so the frogs can go in the top or stay un the bottom. or should i make another waterfall? im just looking for ideas.

    Welcome to the board!

I really like your set up - and I'm sure you'll be getting those auratus sooner rather than later. Great frog choice!

    Welcome aboard!

Your unit looks great. Are you asking if you should do a separate tank?

    Thanks guys.

i love the unit. my dad did a good job on it.

i guess im asking if it would be a good idea to sort of make a second floor for more space for the frogs.

You can do that with wood and make it easy for them to climb up.

allright, so heres what i have so far. still working on it and thinking of ideas. not going to make a waterfall. dont think i have enough room to make one.

im going to make some sort of rock wall on the left hand corner also. id like to put real plants in it but not sure yet. and im also going to make a second level somewhere in there. made my own coconut hides. 2$ a coconut and made 2 hides out of each, only 2 right now but itll work till i figure out what i want to do.

i just need to find the time to do all of it.

    been a while.

so somehow the other one escaped :( redid the tank, made sure there is no way for them to escape and got 2 new Super blue dendrobates auratus.

here are a few pics, no pics of the setup yet. Mario and Toad is their names :)

I haven't been able to find any good plant specialist stores in ottawa, but the Rona at Hunt Club and Merivale usually has a pretty decent selection for a good price. Grocery stores also occasionally have some great viv plants for a great price as well.

I assume that some of the nurseries will have some decent plants as well, but they're usually more expensive and depending where you are, the core doesn't have many of those.

    Welcome to the boards,

So i redid the tank again. have one real plant for now, gonna test out how that goes and then go from there. itll also be easier to get some plants in teh summer as opposed to now.

more stuff in there and places for them to hide, its hard to find them in there. a smaller water portion in there also. just a small container burried in the soil.

I think if you wnet to Home depot you could find some decent small tropical plants a like 2-3 dollars a plant
If you have real plants it is also easier to keep up the humidity in the tank

just have to install the led light i got and need my drill to make holes in my driftwood log to plant the broms. they arent sstaying where they are.

And another update. added some more plants and moss spread I got from Phil (greenoasis) at the expo. also finally added the coco fibre pieces on the side and attached plants to it. i also sealed the top of the tank off with aa piece of lexan in order to keep the humidity higher easier.

also picked up a new bigger tank and other things for the galacts i have on my desk at work. they are currently in a 12 x 12 x 12. new tank is a 12 x 12 x 18. this tank will be my first attempts at a GS background.

no resent pics of them but they are very active and love to climb the walls. this was when i first got them.

So it's been a while since ive updated this. I'll try and be more active from now on. Pretty excited about this.

As some may have seen on another thread, i got myself some Immitator's and Cobalts.

The Immitators are set up in a tank at my work. They are very active and entertaining. everyone at the office loves them. got a few broms in there along with other plants, some moss and a vine pod. I have a Monsoon mister at home that is being replaced with a mistking so that will come here once that is set up.

Now for at home. The crested geckos have passed away so i decided to turn their tank into a tank for the cobalts. The Blue/Bronze tanks has been redone. i had to pretty much rip the whole thing apart when we moved. I didnt want to risk the movers breaking anything inside but in the end, they ended up breaking one of the legs on the stand itself. i really don't know how they managed that since its 1" thick hardwood.

Here is what it looks like now. plants need to be trimmed but i will be taking some to put in the cobalts tank. and adding broms to it.

    The cobalts.

Here is the first photo of it. just put 3 layers of drylock in it along with installing the new Fluval Fresh and Plant LED light so i have LED lights on both sides.

Here is what i have now. lots more work to do but its getting somewhere. Its a pain to do the silicone/eco earth for the walls and covering the expading foam since i cant lie the tank on its back. so getting it in the nooks and crannies is proving to be a bit more difficult. I have more plants for it and it will be taking some plants from the Blue/Bronze tank beside it for it as well. I also got some more Moss from Phil and some vine pods. also as mentionned above, i just ordered a mistking starter system with a few extra nozzles this morning to replace the monsoon that is in the blue/bronze tank.
