I recently received a large order of mosses and ferns from Thailand and I have a bunch left over with no room to house them.

These are all tropical mosses and epiphytic ferns that should do well in a terrarium. They are good to go for being placed in an animal free terrarium or grow tray right away, but full disclosure some quarantine will be needed for at least a month or two since it was required that they were sprayed for export. This chemical was Imidacloprid and will harm nibbling invertebrates (like isopods or crickets) until it breaks down (UV light aids in this). Frogs should be fine as they are not consuming the plants, but growing the moss or ferns in another container for a period is still recommended.

    Mosses:

I will post photos soon but here are the mosses available. They will come in approx. 4”x6” sections and will be $20 each.

    1. Polytrichum sp. – Bright green with lower portion being burgundy, constant high humidity and a lapse between watering. Great for rock or branch cover.

    2. Fissidens sp. Large – Deep green with shiny luster, constant high humidity and lapse in watering. Great for rock or branch cover.

    3. Fissidens sp. Small – Bright green and tight grower. If it dries out it will turn yellow, but will rebound if soaked and kept moist.

    4. Micro Carpet Moss (will grab suspected genus soon) – Tiny compact bright green fronds grow in a carpet on constantly moist substrate.

    5. Hairy Cushion Moss (will grab suspected genus soon) – Bright green mounds of compact grass like fronds. Drought and heat tolerant, but grows best in high humidity. Great for rock and branch cover.

    6. Carpet Moss – Deep green semi-aquatic moss with feathery fronds that grows tight to the substrate. Great for ground cover under medium and low light levels.

    7. Cascading Moss – Pale green bristle-like fronds. Compact and slow grower. Great for rock and branch cover.

    Thai Ferns:

Microsorum linguiforme - $15 – 5-7 leaves of this epiphytic fern that grows about 10cm tall. Can be grown mounted or on substrate.

Microsorum heterocarpum - $20 – An impressive fern that grows well in shade and on moist substrate. Gets 15-25cm tall. Plants will be mature with around 10+ leaves.

Pyrrosia pilosellordes - $20 – A small epiphytic fern that enjoys high humidity and light shade

So finally sorted out the shipment. Things arrived in better shape than from any store. Generous sizings. No unadvertised critters. I highly recommend.
