Over the next few nights Canadart will be getting a brand new user photo gallery addon. There may be intermittent downtime. Don't panic! :)

This new user photo gallery will take over what is currently in place for a user gallery. As far as I can see, importing previously uploaded images from current user galleries should work fine. I hope that is the case!

I'll update this thread when the addon is ready for all of you guys to use!

New user gallery addon is installed!

    http://canadart.org/gallery/

If you experience any errors when uploading images, please PM me or post in this thread.

Here is some general info about the new user gallery addon.

Each user currently has the ability to create 5 albums and add 50 photos + 10 videos per album.

Maximum image upload size is 5 megabytes. Images will be downsized appropriately for web viewing and original images will not be kept when you upload, so please consider this.

Videos can be embedded through most of the large video hosts such as vimeo, youtube, etc.

Some general categories have been created. If you have any suggestions for main categories or sub categories, please post in this thread.

All users have the ability to import images directly from any thread they have created.

As of right now it does not look good for being able to import all of the old user gallery images and I apologize for that. I am continuing to look into this issue though.

Wondering if pictures that we upload to our comments/threads will or can filter into these albums?

Yes, that is an option I can configure but it's a forum specific setting. Perhaps I will make the Members Frogs and Vivariums forum importable. Give me a few mins and I'll confirm when that is setup and provide some instruction.

no worries...but i think that would be a cool feature...it would be a quick access to photos we have posted without having to search the thread

Ok the following forums are enabled for thread importing into the user galleries:

    Dart Frogs General
    Members Frogs & Vivariums
    Eggs, Tadpoles & Breeding
    Vivarium General
    Plants
    Mantella
    Other Amphibians
    Reptiles

At the top right of threads you created in these forums, there is an 'Import to gallery' option :)

Note: I had new galleries set to require moderator approval before being live. I've removed that as it was not intentional.

Having issues getting photos uploaded. The first picture went up fine, but any other picture I try goes to 90% and then just sits there. Photos are all in the 1-2 MB size range.

    Just want to confirm:

Are you adding photos to posts via tapatalk by chance?

Or are you adding photos to the user gallery outside of tapatalk?

Sorry it may sound silly, but just want to be sure :)

    Hi Chris,

I have taken a look at the photo you sent me. Although it is 72 dpi it is actually 4160 pixels wide by 3120 pixels tall making the actual image resolution massive at over 37 mb.

See attached screen shot from photoshop where I highlighted in red.

The max width of an upload to the user galleries is less than 4000 pixels longest edge. I successful uploaded your image after making it 3999 pixels wide. It stalls at 90% for about 3-4 seconds to process the image into a manageable size.

That being said, its always best to upload images much smaller than 4000 pixels longest edge. Even 2000 pixels is huge.

I hope this helps you a bit and also for anyone else having issues uploading.

    Erik

Thanks Erik. I will shrink the rest down before I upload them. After looking at the ones that worked they were taken with my Olympus cameras. The ones that didn't were taken with my cell (Nexus 6).

You're talking about uploading images to threads right? There is a 1 mb limit for attachments for threads. I recommend using a photo sharing service rather than uploading to canadart directly. Tapatalk hosts images for users and the max size is pretty large. Other options are flickr, photobucket, imgur, etc.
