This might be a dumb question, but what type of charcoal to use in a substrate mix & where to buy. Is it activated charcoal, horticultural charcoal or normal bbq charcoal? I’ve called all the nurseries in my area & no one carries horticultural charcoal...

I buy the stuff for BBQs. But, open it and make sure it's real wood and not briquettes.

I have found it at Walmart and home Depot. Canadian tire could have it too.

    8 bucks for 4gal?

Sizes are typically largish, but with a hammer it'll break down.

Thanks Carson & Drew! If I didn’t live in the middle of nowhere I’m sure a decent garden center would have some. But Owen Sound is pretty limited, so I’ll check out Can Tire & Home Depot.

Also, I’ve got snail & scale problems. Do you know how long to co2 the tank for? I bought the dry ice & have been doing it for around 20 min....
